Banking and finance may not always be the Road to Riches

I thought it would be appropriate to post this on the job market blog of the financial center of the world.

A lot of people whether they were engineers, lawyers or even premed students look at finance as a way to riches and try to break into the industry. But the thing is that the cost of living is so high in New York City and the working lifestyle in finance is so stressful that most people don’t spend much time trying to save money at all.

I know people in finance who have made as much as $500K in a year but only to be taxed half that and then spend the rest on a lavish lifestyle, which includes trips to the exclusive bars with the ladies and sports cars.

Job Hunting in New York City

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go! – Dr. Seuss.

When I graduated last spring, I was on a high as I had made the dean’s list a total of six times in my four years in college. I was a great academic, but when it came to job hunting/finding, I was really no good at all. This is where knowing things and being well-informed comes in handy.

It can save you so much time and money when you are soundly educated in your career industry, the prospects that await you in a certain city and how to avail them. New York City is a very diverse place and there are so many things going on in the city that it is pretty amazing.
